Many debutants on the shortlist for the Boekenbon Literature Prize
The shortlist for the Boekenbon Literature Prize includes debut novels by poets Ester Naomi Perquin, Dominique De Groen, and Bernke Klein Zandvoort, alongside Xillan Macrooy and Richard Osinga. The award, which recognizes both fiction and non-fiction, will be presented on November 25, with a prize of €50,000. Notably, four of the five nominees are debut authors, although they are established poets. Perquin's novel explores themes of power and family secrets, while De Groen's work critiques pop culture and capitalism. Klein Zandvoort's essay collection is the only non-fiction entry, examining perception through personal narratives. Osinga's speculative novel addresses a tech billionaire's underground refuge in Kazakhstan, and Macrooy's debut reflects his experiences as a Surinamese queer individual.
