The lawsuit initiated due to CATL's regulatory permit has ended, the court rejected the civilians' claim.
The court has definitively rejected the lawsuit filed by local residents against the environmental permit of the CATL battery factory in Debrecen. The ruling stated that the factory's permit had been modified multiple times since 2023, with significant changes to its technical parameters. The last modification addressed various operational conditions, which the plaintiffs claimed violated regulations. However, since they did not appeal this modification, the court could not assess its legality. The judge noted that the government office monitors the factory's compliance and can review or revoke its permit if necessary. The CATL factory, which produces batteries for electric vehicles, has faced scrutiny and regulatory checks since the change in government, with several investigations leading to fines and partial production halts.
