Fuel sales at gas stations fell 6% in August
In August, road fuel sales in retail decreased by 6.07%, primarily due to an 8.66% drop in diesel consumption compared to the same period in 2025. Diesel prices surged following the U.S. attacks on Iran in March. Gasoline sales also fell, albeit slightly by 0.59%, marking a reversal from previous months. Overall fuel demand in August declined by 4.23% from July, with diesel down 7.99% and gasoline up 4%. Year-to-date sales show a slight increase of 0.18%, with gasoline consumption rising over 6% while diesel fell by 2.37%. This shift is attributed to rising diesel prices and a structural change in the automotive market, favoring hybrid vehicles over diesel cars.
