"We believed that injustice could not last forever." 80 years ago, the last train departed.

On October 29, 1946, the last organized transport of Germans from Czechoslovakia departed from Karlovy Vary – Dvory. Among those displaced was seven-year-old Elfriede Hannawald, who recalled the chaos and sorrow at the station. The transport, which included around 1,200 people, marked a significant historical moment attended by government officials. The expulsion of Germans was part of a larger post-war effort, resulting in the displacement of approximately 1.6 million Germans. Elfriede and her family faced harsh conditions in internment camps and later struggled to integrate into German society, where they were often met with hostility. Despite the challenges, they held onto hope of returning to their homeland, reflecting on the profound impact of the expulsion on their lives and the region's history.
