Five Serbians on EU list of most wanted criminals for art theft in Maastricht
Serbia, not yet an EU member, generally does not extradite its citizens, according to the Public Prosecution Service (OM). The OM hopes to apprehend suspects when they travel abroad. The suspects, four men and one woman aged 41 to 50, are linked to a jewelry heist at the TEFAF fair in Maastricht on June 28, 2022. They have been placed on the European Most Wanted list, and their identities have been revealed. Three stolen diamonds have been located, with one found in Botswana and two in Hong Kong and Israel. A €20,000 reward is offered for tips leading to their arrest, as they are believed to be near Belgrade or Nis. The investigation also connects one suspect to a previous attempted theft at the same fair in March 2020, uncovered through encrypted messages from Sky-ECC, which was hacked in 2021.
