Russian hockey players should be allowed back into the world championships
The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) ruled that Russian teams must be reinstated in IIHF tournaments, despite IIHF's concerns about safety and logistics. The IIHF acknowledges the ruling but emphasizes ongoing issues that led to previous exclusions. The decision affects upcoming championships, including the men's junior tournament starting December 26 in Canada, which will be the first to include Russian teams. Meanwhile, Belarus remains suspended without appeal. The IIHF must quickly adapt to the new situation, as the inclusion of Russian teams could disrupt competition formats. Russian Sports Minister Mikhail Degtyarev expressed satisfaction with the ruling, highlighting the need for IIHF to revise its tournament schedules.
