Vitézy: The government has decided, we will save the Museum of Applied Arts
The Hungarian government is providing resources for the full restoration of the Museum of Applied Arts, which has been closed since 2017. Minister Dávid Vitézy announced that the building's condition is deteriorating and that reconstruction will begin after over a decade of delays. The first steps involve updating outdated plans and permits before restoring Ödön Lechner's work. The museum gained attention due to leadership disputes, particularly after the appointment of art historian Zsombor Jékely as interim director, which sparked political controversy due to his familial ties to a government minister. The cultural ministry clarified that the appointment was made by the MNM KK, not them, and expressed concerns about the situation.
