Long live Philosophy! But what is that?
Today marks the celebration of Philosophy Day, which often seems like just another trivial celebration. However, it highlights a significant issue: many people lack a clear understanding of what philosophy truly is. Two anecdotes illustrate this problem: a young girl equated philosophy with history, while a philosophy student struggled to define it. Philosophy is often described as the art of thinking well, yet it faces criticism for being non-empirical and lacking definitive answers to fundamental questions. This perception contributes to a general disdain for philosophers, who are sometimes seen as ridiculous or contradictory. Despite these challenges, the article argues for a better understanding of philosophy, suggesting that a good philosophy must avoid being bad and that some philosophical problems do have correct answers. Ultimately, a good philosophy aligns with reality and is grounded in our experiences and observations.
