Flemish Indoor Driving Championship opened in Zandbergen: "Sport was almost dead"
The first round of the Flemish indoor driving championship took place in Zandbergen, featuring 71 combinations and 117 horses. Competitors can harness 1, 2, or 4 horses, working together with a navigator and sometimes a backstepper. Inja Deckx from Lindeveldhoeve emphasized the importance of teamwork in this sport, which has seen a revival after struggling in recent years. The event has gained recognition, winning the Golden Reins Award for 'Indoor Event of the Year 2026'. Local teams, including Wassenhove from Zarlardinge, participated, highlighting the sport's community aspect and the bond between participants and their ponies.
