Bird expert Olivier from Zonnebeke contributed to the new Bird Atlas of Flanders
The new Bird Atlas of Flanders is released after 20 years, featuring contributions from Olivier Dochy, a bird specialist from Zonnebeke. He spent four years documenting bird species in the Westhoek region. The atlas highlights the status of various bird species, revealing that many are declining, particularly farmland birds. However, West Flanders shows slightly better conditions for these birds compared to the rest of Flanders, attributed to agricultural diversity. Some forest birds are thriving, and the presence of the sea eagle is noted as a significant highlight. Dochy expresses pride in his contribution to this important project.
