After a long job search, I finally landed my dream job teaching history at the university. In my seventh week, first-year students discussed their career aspirations, mentioning fields like politics and journalism, but not history. This lack of interest was highlighted when a student asked me what I wanted to become in the future, prompting reflection on the value of our discipline.
