Folklore Library fears new savings in Ghent: "We already have to throw thousands of books into a container"
The Koninklijke Bond Oost-Vlaamse Volkskundigen (KBOV) in Ghent is facing a crisis as it prepares to downsize its collection due to a relocation. With the archive currently housed in the Huis van Alijn's tower room, a major renovation will force the KBOV to move to a smaller space, resulting in the potential loss of half its collection. The organization, which preserves various aspects of folklore, has already disposed of significant amounts of material and fears losing unique items. Volunteers are sorting through the collection, hoping to find other institutions willing to take some pieces. Despite retaining key historical items, many valuable documents may be permanently lost, impacting future research.
