For the Dutch who feel disadvantaged, one issue is dominant: housing
Research by the SCP reveals a significant divide in feelings of disadvantage among Dutch citizens, particularly between academically educated individuals and those with vocational training. Many practical-skilled individuals, regardless of migration background, feel disadvantaged in housing and political representation. Approximately 30% of the population feels disadvantaged regarding housing, while 28% express concerns about political representation. The study highlights that academically educated individuals often perceive cultural diversity positively and feel better represented politically. In contrast, practical-skilled individuals view society as competitive and experience a lack of recognition for their contributions. Despite these differences, both groups share skepticism towards newcomers and feel cultural and societal recognition is lacking. The SCP suggests potential for dialogue and understanding between these groups.
