Vote for the next UN Secretary-General: setback for Emirati Lana Nusseibeh; Costa Rican Rebeca Grynspan remains in the lead
Rebeca Grynspan remains the frontrunner for the UN Secretary-General position after a recent indicative vote, despite the late entry of Emirati candidate Lana Nusseibeh. Grynspan secured 11 votes, widening her lead over competitors Rafael Grossi and Carolyn Rodriguez Birkett. Nusseibeh, who entered the race with backing from the Gulf Cooperation Council, finished fourth with only seven supportive votes. The Security Council plans to recommend a candidate to the General Assembly soon, allowing the new Secretary-General time to prepare for the role.
