Woman (34) sentenced to seven years in prison for manslaughter of her baby

A 34-year-old woman in The Hague has been sentenced to seven years in prison for manslaughter of her ten-month-old son, who died from severe brain injuries. The court found that the woman used such violent force that it resulted in the child's death. The child was hospitalized on April 14, 2023, after the parents called emergency services due to his condition, and he died three weeks later. Despite the woman's denial of involvement, experts concluded that the injuries could not have been caused by a fall. The court determined that the woman was responsible for the violence, although it could not establish her intent to kill. The sentence was slightly less than the nine years requested by the prosecution, considering her pre-trial detention and family circumstances.
