The weightlifting federation awarded the hosting of the World Championship to Russia. The first since the beginning of the war.

The International Weightlifting Federation has awarded Russia the hosting rights for the 2030 World Championship, marking the first Olympic sport event in Russia since the start of the Ukraine war in 2022. No world championships in summer or winter Olympic sports have taken place in Russia since then. Last year, Kazan was set to host the World Swimming Championships, but it was relocated to Singapore. The recent decision by the International Olympic Committee to lift the suspension of the Russian Olympic Committee has facilitated Russia's return to international competitions, including qualification for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
