In Gdańsk, he received a new kidney. Out of gratitude, he danced salsa in the hospital.
On October 26, the University Clinical Center in Gdańsk held a unique event promoting organ donation and transplantation. Ricardo Lopez Lara, a former patient who received a kidney transplant, expressed gratitude by dancing with his wife, Alicia, in the hospital. They met in the U.S. and bonded over their love for Latin dance. After Ricardo's kidneys failed, his cousin from Mexico donated a kidney, leading to a successful transplant in July. Ricardo thanked the hospital staff and danced salsa and bachata with them. Dr. Piotr Domagała highlighted the need for more organ donors, noting that Poland has fewer donors compared to Spain. Currently, around 2,000 Poles are waiting for organ transplants.
