In July, a storm swept them away. They were rescued in November.

Residents of Tabuaeran in Kiribati discovered a drifting boat with five people aboard, including two children. They were part of a nine-member group that set out on July 30 between the Micronesian islands of Murilo and Ruo. Their journey was interrupted by a storm, pushing them into open waters. After ten days of searching, the coast guard suspended efforts for the missing. The boat is estimated to have drifted about 5,400 kilometers. The survivors received basic medical assistance but have not publicly shared details of their ordeal. The fate of the remaining four individuals is still unknown, and families in Micronesia have been in contact with some survivors. The governor of Chuuk expressed gratitude for the five found and continued prayers for the missing.
