KNMI Warnings Overhauled: End of Yellow, Orange, or Red Code by Province

The KNMI is shifting to localized weather warnings for storms, fog, heat, and other severe weather, moving away from broad provincial alerts. This change aims to enhance preparedness and reduce unnecessary alarms. Meteorologists can now define specific areas for warnings without being restricted by provincial or municipal boundaries. The new system, which follows a legal amendment, allows for more precise alerts, improving trust in the warnings. The KNMI app has also introduced notifications for impending thunderstorms. Despite competition claims from commercial weather services, the KNMI's free app remains operational. Clear criteria for weather codes have been established, including a new red code for extreme heat.
