Waldemar Żurek: the first hearings in the Constitutional Tribunal are a matter of weeks

On Friday evening, a group of judges took control of the Constitutional Tribunal in Poland, leading to a tense situation involving police and protests. Anna Korwin-Piotrowska, the longest-serving judge, was appointed to temporarily lead the Tribunal after the president and vice-president were suspended. President Karol Nawrocki interrupted his trip to Senegal to address the situation, resulting in physical confrontations as he entered the Tribunal. Justice Minister Waldemar Żurek criticized the president's actions and emphasized the need for the Tribunal to resume its functions and address pending cases. The Supreme Court also announced a meeting to discuss threats to constitutional order.
