The fight for money to promote German tourism. The government cuts spending
The German federal budget proposal for the German National Tourist Board (DZT) for 2027 allocates €39.8 million, a decrease of nearly €800,000 from 2026. The Greens proposed an increase to €45 million, citing rising costs and new digital demands, but this was rejected by CDU/CSU and SPD. The final budget amount is yet to be determined, with a vote scheduled for November 27. Meanwhile, tourism in Germany has seen positive growth, with a 1.3% increase in overnight stays by foreign guests in August compared to last year. DZT President Petra Hedorfer noted sustained demand for travel to Germany despite global uncertainties, with a 1.8% increase in international arrivals in the first half of 2026, surpassing the global average of 0.4%.
