We aim to expand juvenile detention facilities after mass arrests of minors - Nordio

The Italian government plans to increase juvenile detention facilities following mass arrests of minors during riots, with 80% of those arrested in Milan being underage. Justice Minister Carlo Nordio highlighted the unprecedented nature of these arrests, noting the youngest was just 11 years old. He emphasized the need to incarcerate violent minors and acknowledged the current strain on the juvenile prison system. Discussions are underway to allocate funds for expanding detention capacity and potentially repurposing parts of adult prisons for minors.
