The entry of POLSTR will be an evolution
Starting January, banks will use the new POLSTR index for products like mortgages and corporate loans, while WIBOR will remain until 2036 for existing contracts. The transition aims to phase out outdated IBOR-type benchmarks in favor of risk-free rates due to declining interbank transactions post-financial crisis. Although some banks may express concerns, the reform is well-prepared and modeled after successful implementations in Switzerland. For consumers, the change is unlikely to significantly affect loan costs, as both indices closely reflect the central bank's reference rate. The success of the reform will be measured by the growth of products based on POLSTR.
