Employees insufficiently prepared for job loss, more training needed
The UWV reports that the main challenge in addressing labor shortages is not just increasing employment but also enhancing the adaptability of current workers. Despite high labor participation in the Netherlands, there are still significant vacancies, particularly due to a mismatch between skills and job requirements. The rise in unemployment among highly educated individuals is partly due to an increase in their numbers and the impact of AI on job roles. The UWV emphasizes the need for reskilling and upskilling to meet evolving market demands, urging employers and the government to focus on skills rather than formal qualifications. Employers are encouraged to facilitate cross-sector training to better prepare workers for future job markets.
