Storm Austen paralyzes transport in the UK. Thousands of homes without power
Storm Austen has caused significant disruptions across the UK, including flight cancellations, ferry service interruptions, and school closures. The hardest-hit areas include Cornwall and Devon, as well as the Channel Islands of Jersey and Guernsey. Approximately 18,000 households experienced power outages, and many schools in Jersey and Cornwall were closed or opened late. The storm led to the cancellation of around 70% of flights at Jersey Airport, with Guernsey Airport also temporarily closed due to infrastructure damage. Train services faced delays, particularly in Cornwall and Devon, and further severe weather is expected with the arrival of Storm Boelo.
