The United Kingdom tightens regulations. New rules for immigrants

The UK government is implementing significant changes to its immigration system, extending the period for applying for Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) from five to ten years for most immigrants starting in 2027. This change will apply retroactively, affecting those who arrived in 2023. However, care sector workers earning at least £25,000 will still qualify for ILR after five years. A fast-track option for high earners at £125,000 allows for ILR after three years. EU citizens with settled or pre-settled status are exempt from these changes. New disqualifying criteria include criminal records and insufficient English proficiency. These measures aim to reduce immigration and tighten the UK labor market.
