The controversial American clothing brand is making a comeback. This time it is supposed to be polite.
American Apparel, once valued at around a billion dollars, faced bankruptcy due to scandals involving its founder Dov Charney. After nearly a decade, the brand is planning a partial return to its original business model, avoiding past controversies. Founded in 1989, American Apparel gained popularity for its 'Made in USA' ethos and affordable prices, reaching 260 stores globally by the late 2000s. However, Charney's controversial marketing and allegations of misconduct led to his removal and the company's bankruptcy in 2015. In 2017, Gildan acquired the brand, and now American Apparel is reopening with a pop-up store in Los Angeles, featuring refreshed designs from the 90s and 2000s.
