Wrocław reacts to the decision of the Lviv Regional Council. "This is morally unacceptable"
The President of Wrocław, Jacek Sutryk, expressed strong opposition to the Lviv Regional Council's decision to declare 2027 as the year of the UPA. He condemned honoring a formation responsible for the genocide of Poles in Volhynia and Eastern Galicia as morally unacceptable. Sutryk acknowledged Ukraine's struggle for sovereignty against Russian aggression but emphasized that patriotism does not excuse crimes against others. He highlighted the importance of considering the sensitivities of Polish families and the shared history that can unite rather than divide. Sutryk reaffirmed support for Ukraine while insisting on an honest approach to their complex history, stating that silence about crimes against Polish citizens cannot be a price for good relations.
