Lecturer on a contract or on a permanent basis? "The university had no way to win"
A university with 17,000 students sought to hire external lecturers, including judges and doctors, under civil contracts instead of employment contracts. The institution argued that this arrangement would allow specialists to focus solely on lectures without the broader responsibilities of full-time academic staff. However, the National Labor Inspectorate (PIP) rejected this approach, stating that the primary form of employment at universities should be an employment contract. PIP emphasized that lecturers remain under the university's organizational control and must adhere to academic regulations. The inspectorate's interpretation may influence hiring practices across Polish higher education institutions.
