Verdict for an accident from five years ago. Driver convicted in a retrial

In March 2021, a serious accident occurred in Białystok involving a BMW, an Opel, and a city bus. The BMW collided with the Opel, which had failed to yield, and subsequently hit the bus. A 23-year-old passenger in the BMW suffered severe injuries and died two months later. The prosecutor charged all three drivers: the Opel driver, a police officer, was found guilty of negligence; the BMW driver was accused of speeding; and the bus driver was penalized for distracted driving. In a subsequent trial, the BMW driver received a suspended sentence for contributing to the accident by exceeding the speed limit. The court emphasized that while the Opel driver was primarily at fault, the BMW driver's excessive speed was also a significant factor in the incident.
