Behind them the hottest October in over 25 years

Norwegian Meteorological Institute reported that October 2026 was 2.7 degrees Celsius above the long-term average, marking one of the warmest on record. No measurement stations recorded below-average temperatures, with 60 monthly temperature records and over 20 daily highs set. Notably, Svalbard Airport reached a record 10.2 degrees Celsius. Rainfall patterns also varied significantly, with some areas near Russia experiencing 80% less rain, while Oestfold had its wettest October since 1902. Climate change is impacting weather patterns, leading to predictions of increased rainfall and erosion risks by 2100. The northern regions are expected to experience more pronounced warming, affecting seasonal weather patterns.
