Is the end of the war in Ukraine "getting closer"? Donald Trump on the agreement

Donald Trump discussed the potential end of the war in Ukraine after speaking with Vladimir Putin. He noted that negotiations are ongoing and expressed optimism about reaching an agreement. Special envoy Steve Witkoff met with Ukrainian and Russian leaders, describing the talks as constructive. Trump acknowledged Witkoff's comments about Putin's humanitarian actions, particularly regarding the release of American Stephen Hubbard, who had been imprisoned in Russia. Trump emphasized that the U.S. did not offer anything in return for Hubbard's release, which he deemed unusual. Hubbard, a retired teacher, was detained in April 2022 and sentenced to nearly seven years in prison for fighting alongside Ukraine.
