The president of one of the largest banks in the country has been arrested

The president of Alta Bank, Macura, was detained after police searched the bank's headquarters for over 30 hours. He attempted to flee to Moscow following the parliamentary elections on October 25, which were lost by Vucic's camp. Macura is among four Serbian businessmen facing potential U.S. sanctions for allegedly collaborating with former president Vucic and misusing public resources for personal gain. The National Bank of Serbia revoked Alta Bank's operating license to protect depositors and maintain financial stability. Alta Bank has been noted for facilitating financial transactions for Russian entities amid the Ukraine conflict.
