A ghost of the old Šumava has emerged from the depths of Lipno. People last saw it with their own eyes 40 years ago.
The drought has revealed the Heart of Vltava, a river meander submerged since 1958 under the Lipno Reservoir. Historical and satellite images show its re-emergence, attracting attention as a symbol of the region's past. Scientists confirmed its shape remains intact, and it holds cultural significance for the former German inhabitants of Šumava. The area, once a vibrant landscape, is now partially visible due to the low water levels, allowing people to reconnect with a lost heritage. The Heart of Vltava serves as a reminder of the changes brought by the construction of the largest Czech dam.
