Seal Center Pieterburen still open for at least one more week after donor support
The Zeehondencentrum Pieterburen moved to the Wadden Sea World Heritage Center in Lauwersoog last year, combining seal care, research, and education. However, the new location has led to unexpected financial burdens. On October 12, the center announced plans to file for bankruptcy unless future prospects improve. Despite this, the center's board noted significant donor support, allowing for continued discussions about its future. Conversations with local governments have revealed some potential for further dialogue, and talks with funding organizations are ongoing. However, the province of Groningen and the municipality of Het Hogeland have already stated they will not provide additional financial support.
