Seal center postpones intended bankruptcy by a week
The Zeehondencentrum Pieterburen has postponed its bankruptcy application by a week due to new funding opportunities. The center has received €1.25 million in donations and a petition to save it has over 100,000 signatures. However, the Wadden Sea World Heritage Center warns that a solution is not guaranteed. Discussions with various parties are planned to secure additional funding. The center, established in 1971, cares for sick and weakened seals before releasing them back into the Wadden Sea. Financial issues stem from an expensive new facility and low visitor numbers, leaving a €3 million deficit.
