Rare skeleton of nanotyrannus sold for 42 million euros
A rare nanotyrannus skeleton, named Jodi, was sold at auction in New York for over 42 million euros, making it one of the world's most expensive fossils. The skeleton, discovered in Montana in 2019, was expected to fetch between five and eight million euros but exceeded expectations during a bidding war involving six participants. Measuring 4.7 meters long and 2.7 meters high, Jodi is one of only three known complete specimens of this species, which lived around 67 million years ago. Critics from the scientific community express concerns that such auctions may lead to the loss of important fossils for research and public access, deeming the auction prices excessive compared to excavation costs.
