Rare 'Angel of Death' mushroom found on Utrecht Hill Ridge

Chrispijn discovered the sticky death cap mushroom in two locations during a tour at Landgoed De Paltz, marking its unexpected growth on the Utrechtse Heuvelrug after being presumed extinct since the 1990s. While still found in places like Drenthe, sightings have become rare. The mushroom is highly toxic, and although Chrispijn touched it to confirm its identity, he warns against consuming it due to its liver-damaging toxins. The decline of the sticky death cap is attributed to soil acidification and nitrogen presence, with Chrispijn noting that 70-80% of mushrooms struggle with nitrogen levels.
