Rare poisonous mushroom 'Angel of Death' found in Soest

The sticky knolamaniet, known as the 'Angel of Death', is a rare and dangerous mushroom recently rediscovered in the Utrechtse Heuvelrug. Mycologist Rob Chrispijn found it during an excursion at De Paltz estate, where it was thought to be extinct. This mushroom is on the Dutch Red List as threatened, suffering from habitat degradation due to nitrogen pollution. Although it resembles edible mushrooms, consuming it can lead to severe health issues, including liver and kidney damage. One of the two specimens found will be studied further, while the other remains on site, as locals tend to avoid mushrooms.
