Rare find in Pompeii: 2,000-year-old cabinet full of personal belongings
A chest was discovered during excavations in a house in Pompeii, which was buried by a volcanic eruption in 79 AD. The site is linked to Cornelius Maximus, and recent restorations allowed for the exploration of previously unexamined rooms. Archaeologists found various items in the chest, including a necklace with 24 pendants, a tweezers, a small glass bottle, and incense burner, along with 38 bronze coins and cooking pots. Project leader Gabriel Zuchtriegel noted that while the identity of the house's occupant remains uncertain, these artifacts provide insight into daily life in Pompeii before its destruction.
