The rector of the University of Hradec Králové Jan Kříž has died
Jan Kříž, the rector of the University of Hradec Králové, has passed away at the age of 51 after a prolonged illness. The university has established a memorial site for him, accessible to the public until his farewell. Kříž served as rector since October 2024 and was also a city councilor for Hradec Králové representing ODS. His struggle with illness was likened to a hockey match, with supporters believing in his victory. The university, which has nearly 7,000 students, offers education across four faculties, with the oldest being the pedagogical faculty founded in 1964.
