The diplomat's wife is sick with Ebola. She has been transported to Europe.
The health of a woman infected with Ebola has improved and is now stable, according to Nigeria's Health Minister Muhammad Ali Pate. The patient, who traveled to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) via Uganda, is conscious. Her husband, a Swiss diplomat, was evacuated and shows no symptoms. Switzerland has two specialized hospitals for treating Ebola since 2019, located in Zurich and Geneva. The World Health Organization reports ongoing high transmission of Ebola in the DRC, with 9,704 confirmed cases and 4,687 deaths. Uganda was declared free of the disease in August.
