Son allowed to speak to Aung San Suu Kyi for the first time in five years

Aung San Suu Kyi, the former leader of Myanmar, spoke to her son for the first time in five years. Kim Aris expressed gratitude for the support they received and urged continued advocacy for her freedom. Suu Kyi was imprisoned following a military coup after her party's electoral victory in 2020, facing charges deemed politically motivated by observers. Currently under house arrest, she recently received a visit from the Red Cross and some photographs were released by the regime. Aris cautioned against viewing these gestures as normalization, emphasizing that his mother’s rights are still being violated and calling for her unconditional release.
