They were elected, but do not adjudicate. The gigantic debt of the State Treasury towards the judges of the Constitutional Tribunal
Journalist Tomasz Skory reports that the basic salary for a Constitutional Tribunal judge is nearly 44,000 PLN gross, translating to over 30,000 PLN net. Since their election in March, the judges have not received any payments, leading them to appeal to the Sejm, which has refused to intervene. The debt owed to the five non-judging judges has exceeded 1.2 million PLN, accumulating at a rate of nearly 220,000 PLN monthly. Only two of the six newly elected judges were invited to the Presidential Palace for their oath, while the others had to swear in front of the Sejm. Judge Bogdan Święczkowski did not allow them to adjudicate, claiming their oath was not valid. Subsequent appointments and oaths have also faced delays, with the latest judge, Maciej Berek, finally taking his oath in mid-October.
