Sour rye soup on the immunities of Constitutional Tribunal judges: Quorum is not needed

Justice Minister Waldemar Żurek stated that a quorum is not necessary for the Constitutional Tribunal to revoke the immunity of judges Bogdan Święczkowski and Bartłomiej Sochański. He emphasized that while quorum is required for budget discussions, the rules regarding immunity have been analyzed multiple times, indicating that it is not needed in this context. The Tribunal's General Assembly, convened by Judge Anna Korwin-Piotrowska, will address the Tribunal's budget for 2027 and the immunity requests. There are ongoing disputes regarding the legality of the Assembly's convening, with Supreme Court President Zbigniew Kapiński questioning the authority of Korwin-Piotrowska. Żurek clarified that decisions regarding the judges' immunity are internal Tribunal matters, not government actions, stressing the importance of maintaining the separation of powers.
