Severe fire above the praline and candy store Verheecke in Bruges: "I have to throw away all the candy and pralines"
A fire broke out this morning in the Verheecke candy store in Brugge, originating from the kitchen on the first floor. Although the shop itself sustained no damage, the owner, Charlotte Verheecke, must discard all chocolates and sweets due to smoke odor. The fire was discovered by Charlotte's brother, Christophe, who attempted to extinguish it before calling the fire department. The kitchen suffered significant damage, and the upper floors experienced smoke damage. Christophe sustained third-degree burns on his hands but emphasized the importance of everyone's safety. The cause of the fire remains unknown, and an investigation is underway.
