1.3 million Android devices infected by Google's Chinese partner
Google has terminated its partnership with a Chinese manufacturer after discovering that the company intentionally embedded a backdoor in 1.3 million Android devices. This backdoor was used to integrate the devices into a botnet for malicious activities, including ad fraud and data theft, without the owners' knowledge. The affected devices included various Android-based set-top boxes and smart TVs, among other IoT devices. The manufacturer, Videostrong, profited significantly from these activities over several years.
