117 vacancies to support the rest of informal caregivers

The Government's Caregivers Fund has opened 117 spots for informal caregivers to temporarily leave those they care for at social centers, allowing them to rest. This initiative, announced by Minister Maria do Rosário Palma Ramalho, aims to enhance support networks for caregivers. The pilot project, launched in January, provides access to day centers and home support services, ensuring caregivers can take breaks for health or personal reasons. Currently, there are 19,000 recognized informal caregivers in Portugal, with the program allowing up to 56 hours of service per month for each individual cared for. The project will last one year and is implemented in 18 municipalities across mainland Portugal.
