25 years in prison demanded against Nicolas Ullens (61) for the murder of his stepmother and baroness Myriam Lechien

The public prosecutor has requested a 25-year prison sentence for Nicolas Ullens de Schooten for the murder of his stepmother, Baroness Myriam Lechien. Ullens was found guilty of murder on October 6, 2023, after shooting Lechien on March 29, 2023, at her estate in Ohain. He claimed to have acted in a moment of rage due to long-standing frustrations, but the jury determined he acted with premeditation. Following a request to dismiss the presiding judge, the case was reviewed by the Court of Cassation, which rejected the request. The prosecutor highlighted that Ullens had acted coldly and deprived the victim of any chance of survival, while also noting mitigating circumstances such as his clean criminal record and age. The defense will present its arguments before the final verdict is announced.
