It has been 56 days to replace the old, book-shaped ID for those who still use such a thing
Approximately 30,000 people in Hungary still use old book-style ID cards, which must be replaced by December 31. The Ministry of Rural Development urges individuals to not wait until the last minute for this process, which can be done at any government office. These old IDs lost their validity on August 3 due to non-compliance with EU security standards, but a grace period has been provided until year-end to avoid disruption of essential services. The ministry emphasizes assistance for elderly individuals, with free issuance of new IDs for those over 70. Mobile services are available for those unable to visit in person due to health issues.
